i was born and brought up in taunton too. did your story take place in nat west bank i had a weird moment in there with my little boy when he was a baby about 2 years ago we were coming out of the lift to leave as soon as the doors opened he suddenly looked very frightened and started crying at something he was seeing in front of him i could'nt see anything there but it had become very cold which was strange as it was a warm summer day maybe it was connected to what you saw too

Ive seen herons fly at night on several occasions on the canal near to where I live, they can be very startling indeed, and of course they have the slow wingbeat as described above.

I was born and brought up in taunton and lived here all my life i have always had intrest and believe in the existance of ghosts as i had many unexplained phanomina during my life. i would like to tell you about somthing that happened in the town about 5 years ago. it was an ordinary day i was waiting downstairs in a bank for my husband who was upstairs it was quite buzy people walking in and out , the next minute i was looking at a old woman dressed all in black just standing there staring ahead right in front of me. her skin was wrinkled and pale , her eyes at the bottom were drooped.and her hair was grey and tied up in a type of bun. and i thought this dosnt look right, if she was old why would she be standing so tall and dead straight she should be kind of shrunk or bent back, why would she be out alone, why is she wearing all black down to her ankles. and then she slowly moved forward hardly moving stopped at the door still starring ahead. and turned left out of sight which must have taken about 10 seconds.i immiediately got off my chair looked onto the pavement and she was gone she was moving to slow to have gone anywhare i looked through the crowds and walked a few yards up the pavement looking in the shops everywhare but no sign of her my husband came out asking me what i was doing after explaining he joined me looking but still no sign. i think it was the ghost of a victorian lady in black, i never forgot her and often think about her. who was she , and why was she there. why did she want me to see her.

I have seen a few herons around Halifax where I live, and they can be quite startling. It would be interesting to know if the sightings were in daytime, nighttime and the lighting conditions.
Does anyone know if the Features Editor's photograph was published online anywhere?
Thanks very much,
Andy

I just wanted to report my time slip experience which was experienced by myself, my father and my sister.
It happened in the late 1990s (can't remember exactly when - sorry) in King's Lynn, Norfolk, England. My dad, sister and I were in the town to send my sister off on the train and we were passing time standing by a fence near the railway station from which one could see a road and roundabout ahead. It was about noon and we had no agenda at that time other than to wait before heading to the station and there was a lull in the conversation.

We were all casually looking straight ahead when suddenly the atmosphere changed. The sound of the traffic around us stopped abruptly - as if someone had literally turned the volume right down. The air seemed to change too; it became very still; spookily still and no sound could be heard. None of us spoke. Then there came the sound of horses hooves on the road and within a few seconds we saw a horse and cart, driven by a large, angry-looking man, dressed in what I estimate to be 18th century clothes. He was of very rough, dirty appearance and his cart was well-used. He drove the cart around in a circle, all the time staring around, sometimes directly at us, sometimes away but looking absolutely furious as though he was looking for someone he wanted to kill. His face was red with hatred and he was a big, rough-looking man - someone you would definitely not want to cross. Eventually, he turned the horse and cart around and drove it off down the same road from which he had appeared and we could hear the horses hooves disappearing into the distance.

Immediately the sound had gone, the atmosphere changed back again and the sound of modern traffic and the din of a modern town returned again. We all three looked at each other; shaken and almost disbelieving but once we had asked the inevitable "Did you see that?" and received the answer "yes" we were even more shaken. It was such a peculiar experience and one which I shall never forget.

Was this a time slip? We didn't notice any other changes; the buildings and road layout seemed the same but that part of King's Lynn had remained unchanged for many years (although I understand it is quite different now) so I don't know but it spooked us all for sure!

That's really interesting! I often used to see a small black cat in a house I used to live in, always out of the corner of my eye but when I turned to get a proper look it would be gone. For a while I did wonder if I was going a bit potty because no other family members could see it. However one afternoon a neighbour stopped to chat as I was coming home, and during the conversation asked about my "pretty little black cat", I explained I didn't have one, but she was quite adamant, saying, 'but I've seen it loads of times - it was sitting on the window ledge a few minutes ago'.
